Objectives:

To get knowledge about various systems in Medical Surgical Nursing.

Provide comprehensive care in various Medical and Surgical patients.

To get more skill to do the demonstration and providing care.

To acquire advance technical expertise in the field of Medical Surgical Nursing.

Our Medical Surgical Department is one of the major pillar in the context of Nursing Education. It includes fundamental of Nursing, Medical Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Medical and Surgical Nursing I and II. In our department there are of 2 Assistant professors, 3 Lecturers and 7 clinical Instructors. We have well-equipped lab for pre-demonstrations, library for referring the contents and mannequins for Advanced life saving procedures. We are affiliated with various prestigious institutions like Narayana Hyrudayalaya, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology. Travancore Medical college, Regional Cancer Centre. Our department conducts various extension activities including Blood pressure camps, Health education for public, Observance of All important National and International Health days like World Health day, World Diabetic Day, World Heart Day, World Cancer Day. We have joint departmental research and CNE’s conducted regularly.

Objectives:

Provide comprehensive care to mother during antenatal, intranataland postnatal periods.

Identify and manage abnormalities and complications of pregnancy, labor, and puerperium.

Demonstrate competence in caring for high risk new born.

Update recent advancement in contraceptive technology.

Render health education to Antenatal, Intranatal and postnatal mothers and their family members.

Update knowledge in legal and ethical issues pertaining to Obstetric Nursing.

Department has 4M.Sc. nursing faculty, has well established lab with high-tecdummies and mannequins to practice Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing Departmentrelated procedures and care.The students are provided with well facilitated clinical experience at Bishop Benziger Hospital and Government Victoria Hospital.department.PGstudents are posted at life line hospital infertilitycenter, Department has organized and celebrated world breast feeding week and rendered health education services on all national and international health days.department members have undertaken departmental research activities to upgrade knowledge and professional development.faculty are encouraged to attend CNE,workshop,seminars.regular department meetings are conducted to update departmental activities.

Objectives:

To prepare students capable of rendering preventive, promotive, curative and restorative nursing child care to children of all age groups both in hospital and community setup

To preparestudents capable of identifying health needs of children with special significance to their growth and development and render nursing care with understanding of difference in caring children

To prepare students with adequate knowledge and special skill in giving comprehensive family centered nursing care to children with different medical –surgical disease conditions

Child health department consists of 3 experienced faculties rendering Child health nursing education to fifty 3rd year graduates and four postgraduate students. Department has MCH lab with Neonatal Resuscitation Mannequin,Baby dummies,newborn assessment equipment’sand other requirements to teach specific Paediatricprocedures to students. Their clinical experience is completed in120 beddedPaediatricwards,PICU and NICU of Bishop Benziger Hospital and Post Graduate students gets posting in JB Wadia Children’s Hospital, Mumbai. Department takes keen interest in conducting extension service and participates in all relevant health care and awareness programs during National and International Health days.Departmental faculty is keen in updating their knowledge and skill, and doing Departmental Research.Planning to conduct departmental workshop.

PG students has undertaken 12 Research projects in the area of Neonatal Nursing , School health and other child health areas.

Objectives:

To upgrade the knowledge of students regarding currents trends and issues.

community health department consists of 3 faculties1 Asst professor, 1 lecturer, 1 clinical instructor rendering community health nursing education to100 students in II year and IV year graduates and four postgraduate students. Department has well-equipped lab for pre-demonstrations community lab with 50 bags ,puppets ,models, horrock’s apparatus, posters, with different types of AV Aids. Department members have undertaken departmental research activities to upgrade knowledge and professional development. Faculty’s encouraged attending CNE, workshop, and seminars. Monthly Regular department meetings are conducted to update departmental activities. Our department conducts various extension activities including conducting various clinics through community Centre. Medical camps, Health education for public awareness, organizing and conducting and Observance of All important National and International Health days like World Health day, World Diabetic Day, hepatitis day World Heart Day, environmental day, No tobacco day ,breast feeding week, World Cancer Day, mental health day etc. CNE’s conducted regularly.
